TriQuint Semiconductor Sets New Size and Performance Standards with Breakthrough GSM/GPRS/EDGE SAW Filters
New Filters Are Optimized for Key GSM Transceiver, Offering
Greater Reliability & Cost-Savings
HILLSBORO, Ore. & NEW ORLEANS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 14, 2005—
TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:TQNT) (FWB:TQNT) today
introduced its new family of GSM/GPRS/EDGE SAW filters in the smallest
size (1.5x1.5x0.76mm) available in mass production today. This new
filter family is 20% smaller than the 2.0x1.4mm SAWs now commonly used
by global handset makers. This size advantage allows phone designers
to free-up board space in next-generation designs to accommodate
additional features and functions. The new SAW filters represent a
breakthrough in size reduction while maintaining excellent electrical
performance, reliability and cost.
Introduction of the new SAW filters is in conjunction with
TriQuint's exhibition at the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet
Association's "Wireless 2005" Convention and Exhibition in New
Orleans, Louisiana (14th-16th March). Show visitors can view the
products and discuss their benefits with designers and key marketing
representatives in Booth 5623.
In addition to reducing the size of the SAW filters, TriQuint's
Sawtek division collaborated with major transceiver partners to
develop these new GSM/GPRS/EDGE products. As a result, these filters
(p/n 856441 (GSM850), 856387 (GSM900), 856409 (DCS), and 856417 (PCS))
are optimized to achieve system-level performance that is considered
the best for these partners and phone designers utilizing their
transceivers.
Insertion loss is a key factor in evaluating SAW filter
performance as it directly affects the overall noise figure -- one of
the most critical system-level parameters for GSM phones. The
insertion loss of TriQuint's new 1.5x1.5mm RF SAWs is considered among
the best by today's phone designers. Using the new family of
GSM/GPRS/EDGE SAW filters therefore enables designers to achieve an
excellent noise figure while knowing these products are optimized for
the transceiver commonly used by many global handset manufacturers.
Optimization saves design time and enables faster new product
roll-outs.
TriQuint's new quad-band GSM RF filters are designed for high
reliability while maintaining cost effectiveness. Reliability is
assured by full hermeticity within the SAW packages. Hermeticity is
extremely important for SAW filters to ensure consistent and reliable
operation of the transducer material on the surface of the
piezoelectric substrate. While some manufacturers use non-hermetic
processes to reduce costs, TriQuint maintains its rigorous quality
standards to produce a highly reliable product. Because our
manufacturing processes are state-of-the-art, using less ceramic
material than other designs, we can offer technically superior
products that are also more cost effective than other manufacturers',
delivering products that are both highly reliable and good to
customers' bottom lines.
TriQuint's new 1.5x1.5mm GSM/GPRS/EDGE SAW filters (p/n 856441
(GSM850), 856387 (GSM900), 856409 (DCS), and 856417 (PCS)) are in mass
production today. TriQuint also offers 2-in-1 filter products with the
same electrical performance as individual 1.5x1.5mm RF SAW filters.
